About Sound Technology
Sound Technology is an independent reviews-and-buyer’s-guide site for people who take sound seriously — written by a small Australian team who’ve spent years living with high-end hi-fi, building dedicated home cinemas, treating rooms, and arguing late into the night about whether a cable can possibly make a difference. We bring all of that, healthy scepticism included, to how we talk about gear.
This domain has a long history in Australian audio. We’re a new editorial team operating it today under new ownership — Sound Technology is an independent publication, not a continuation of any previous business that used the name. We simply think this is the right home for honest, expert writing about serious sound.
What we cover
- Reviews — loudspeakers, amplifiers, DACs, streamers, turntables, headphones, subwoofers, AV receivers and projectors; every review says whether we’ve personally listened.
- Buyer’s guides — “best X for Y” round-ups and head-to-heads to help you spend wisely at every level.
- Home theatre — dedicated cinema and whole-home design, plus a free design consult and introductions to vetted Australian installers.
- The glossary — plain-English explanations of the jargon, with the marketing filtered out.
- The team — meet the listeners behind the reviews, each with their own bias and background.
How we review
Every review is clearly marked as either Tested (we’ve actually listened, and the page names the reviewer) or Research-based (we haven’t had it in our own rooms, and we say so). We don’t pretend to have heard gear we haven’t. Full methodology is on our editorial standards page.
How we make money
Sound Technology is supported by display advertising, affiliate commissions, and home-theatre design enquiries. When you click a product link and buy something, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This never affects which gear we recommend or what we say about it. Full details are on our affiliate disclosure page.
Editorial independence
Brands don’t pay for inclusion or for higher ratings. When a piece is sponsored or a product was provided for testing, we say so on that page — and we never give brands sign-off on our words.
