Sound Technology is an independent high-end audio publication. We make money in three ways — affiliate commissions, display advertising, and home-theatre design enquiries — and this page explains how each works so you can read our reviews with full context.

Affiliate commissions

Many of the product links on Sound Technology are affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, the retailer pays us a small percentage of the sale. It costs you nothing extra, and it’s the same price you’d pay going to the retailer directly.

Sound Technology is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon. We also participate in affiliate programs with selected Australian and international hi-fi retailers (directly and via networks such as Commission Factory, Impact and AWIN).

Home-theatre design enquiries

When you book a design consult, we may introduce you to a vetted custom-install professional. Where a referral leads to a project, we may receive a referral fee from the installer. Our design guidance itself is vendor-neutral — we recommend what suits your room and budget, not what pays us most, and we’ll always tell you when an introduction involves a commercial relationship.

Display ads

We display ads served by Google AdSense (and, in time, other premium ad networks). These ads are personalised based on your consent preferences — see our cookie policy for the full story. Advertisers have no influence over our editorial content.

How this affects what we recommend

It doesn’t. Commission rates and partnerships never factor into whether a product is featured or how we rate it. If we recommend something, it’s because we’ve either listened to it ourselves or done the research and believe it’s the best option at its price.

When a product was provided on loan by a brand or distributor for testing, we say so on the product page. We do not accept payment for positive reviews.
